Discover four powerful daily practices — seeking the Lord, beginning with thanksgiving, hearing God's voice, and walking in the Spirit — that will anchor your faith and lead you to a life of true victory in Christ.
Seek the LORD
"With all my heart, I sought the things of God" — this is the attitude of those who seek the LORD.
Jehoshaphat had a heart that was devoted to the ways of the LORD. His delight was in knowing God's will for his life and for his people.
Practically speaking, whenever a situation arose, he sought the LORD for guidance and counsel. In this manner, he honored God and pursued His ways.
If you take time to ask God for direction before making any decisions, you are seeking the LORD.
Begin with Thanksgiving
This is a vital ingredient for living a victorious life in Christ. Thanksgiving sets the right tone for our lives. As we begin to thank God for everything we have right now, we position ourselves to experience His presence and favor.
Entering His gates with thanksgiving and praise is a command from the LORD. Especially when we come to God for help or specific direction, we should begin by thanking Him for all that He has already done.
This is the way of life for all who walk in victory.
Hear the Voice of God
The easiest and simplest way to hear the voice of God is by reading the Word of God. Our God speaks. He loves to speak to us and instruct us in the way we should go.
Hearing the voice of God is the ability to understand His heart for us. Whether it concerns your daily work or an important decision that needs to be made, take time to hear God. He will bring clarity, solve your problems, and provide the guidance you need.
Victory belongs to those who hear the voice of God on a daily basis.
Walk in the Spirit
This verse teaches us that if we are to walk in the Spirit, we must continually depend on the words of Jesus because His words are Spirit and life.
In simple terms, walking in the Spirit means continually trusting and depending on the Word of God. Walking is a verb that denotes continuous action. Hearing God is not enough to live a victorious life; we must also do what the Spirit of God instructs us to do through His Word.
Those who walk in the Spirit do not fulfill the desires of the flesh. Your victory is determined by this truth and by this lifestyle. Being led by the Spirit is one of the greatest privileges of the children of God.
“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.”
— John 6:63
